Frequently Asked Questions

  • We supply a wide selection of generators to suit different needs. These include compact inverter models ideal for camping and electronics, petrol- and LPG-powered units for home backup, and heavy-duty portable power systems for construction and farming. We also supply industrial generators such as the popular P Series for substantially more power

  • Start by calculating the wattage of all the appliances you want to run at the same time. Remember that many items, such as fridges or pumps, require higher starting wattages. As a rule of thumb, select a generator with at least 20% more power than your total load to ensure safe, reliable performance allowing for surge power and fluctuations.

  • Yes. Inverter generators are designed to produce a smooth, stable sine-wave output, making them safe for electronics like laptops, televisions, and mobile phones. If you plan to use your generator mainly for electronics, we recommend choosing an inverter model such as one from the P Series inverters or the PMi Series.

  • Always operate generators outside and away from doors or windows. Never use them indoors, even in garages or sheds, as this poses a carbon monoxide risk. Keep the generator dry and ensure you have working carbon monoxide alarms installed at home.

  • Not all models come with 3-pin UK domestic sockets. Some use industrial IEC or Schuko connectors. Adaptors and extension leads are widely available to ensure your generator is compatible with your appliances.

  • Routine maintenance is key to extending the life of your generator. Oil should typically be changed every 50–200 hours, and filters inspected or replaced as needed. Even if unused, run your generator periodically to keep components lubricated and batteries charged.

  • While many generators are durable, they should never be exposed to rain or standing water. Always operate your generator under cover and in a dry, well-ventilated space outdoors. This protects both the generator and your safety.

  • All EGM generators are backed by manufacturer warranties covering parts and labour. All portable products have a 12 month warranty as standard. If you encounter any issues, our support team is on hand to provide troubleshooting advice, repairs, or replacement guidance.

  • If your item is in new condition, in original unopened packaging and you have simply changed your mind before using it, you may return the item within 14 days for a refund. There will be a service charge of 20% to contribute towards handling and restocking and the customer will also have to bear the cost of the return carriage.
